In 1830, a whaler from Cape Cod named Nathan Cobb, in an effort to escape an epidemic of tuberculosis that was devastating New England, uprooted his family and relocated to a lonely barrier island off the coast of Virginia in search of a better life. With sheer grit, determination, and perseverance through tragedy and setbacks, the Cobbs took a big, empty sand bar and against all odds created a vibrant, working community for nearly 100 years.
Featuring interviews with local historians, Cobb family descendants and avid collectors of rare and treasured Cobb decoys, this intimate family epic brings a bygone, self-sufficient, seafaring existence roaring back to life.
